1. Jig weight

As the name suggests, the most important part of jigging is the jig. When choosing the right jig, different factors may be considered, such as shape, color, size, and most importantly, weight. In general, the deeper the waters you are fishing and the stronger the current, the heavier the jig should be.

The depth of the sea in Dubai varies from 7 meters (23 ft) to a maximum of 35 meters (115 ft) far offshore, with currents varying from none to quite strong. Therefore, the best jigs for fishing in Dubai weigh between 10g – 60g, depending on the depth and current.

In this regard, it is also important to note that heavier jigs do not necessarily mean larger catches. In fact, on some days, you may be able to catch much bigger fish with lighter jigs. It is always good to have a variety of jigs when it comes to weight for your offshore trip to ensure the highest probability of catching fish.

2. Slow jigging vs. Fast jigging

As stated above, the depth of the sea in Dubai varies from 7 meters (23 ft) to a maximum of only 35 meters (115 ft). Due to such shallow depths, fast jigging may not be the most optimal option for jigging in Dubai (although, more experienced fishermen may use fast jigging in Dubai in limited circumstances). From our own experience, slow jigging appears to be much more effective for Dubai jigging trips and can land you a variety of fish such as Groupers, Emperors, Barracudas, and others.

3. Drifting vs. Anchored

For boat fishing in Dubai, you can either fish from a drifting boat or an anchored boat. When it comes to deep-sea jigging fishing in Dubai, regardless of the location at sea, it is preferred to allow the boat to drift rather than anchoring it to a fixed location. This allows you to cover larger areas of the sea and increases your probability of catching fish while jigging.

However, as the boat is continuously drifting, the angle of your fishing line may change from a vertical to a less vertical position. When this happens, it is recommended to pull your line back and drop it again to maintain a mostly vertical position of your fishing line
