Every now and then, we are joined at Ocealics by some really excited individuals, some even enjoying their first deep sea fishing experience ever! The excitement can be overwhelming, to the extent that some of those individuals would prefer to keep their catch even where such catch falls short of the minimum legal length of fish for fishing purposes in the UAE.

In this regard, it is worth noting that we all bear the responsibility of ensuring our oceans remain healthy and in a good condition. In efforts to preserve the UAE and the world’s seas and oceans, the UAE’s Minister of Climate Change and Environment issued the Ministerial Decision No. 580 of 2015 on the Prevention of Fishing, Sale, or Marketing of Small Sizes of Fish, specifying the minimum length of the most common fish allowed to be caught in the UAE. With that decision going into effect, it is illegal and punishable by law to catch and keep fish that fall short of the minimum legal length
