Shape and color
The Golden trevally has a compressed and elongated body. Its mouth is highly protrusible and fleshy with no teeth in the upper jaw. It is yellow and white in color with a dark bar through the eye, five black bars on the body, and a narrow black bar in each yellow interspace. It also often has a few scattered black blotches on the body.
Habitat
It is commonly found swimming around deep coastal waters and seaward coral areas at a depth of 10 meters and is usually found in schools, swimming around large predators.
Feeding
It is a carnivorous fish, feeding on many marine species including molluscs, crustaceans, small schooling fish, and many others.
Fishing season
It is a common fish in the waters of the UAE and can be encountered throughout the year.
Fishing method
It can be caught using various fishing techniques including fishing nets, fishing rods, and fish traps (locally known as Gargoor).
