Swimming During a Fishing Trip

If you have booked your boat fishing trip in Dubai from March to November, you probably considered jumping into the water for a refreshing dip to escape the sun's heat. Most fishing charters in Dubai, including Ocealics, allow you to jump into the water for a swim during your fishing trip.

While going for a short swim during your fishing trip is a brilliant idea to refresh your mind and energize your body, the following safety aspects must be carefully considered:

  • Ask the boat captain for permission – The boat captain must be aware of your intention to swim in order to take the necessary precautionary measures to ensure your safety. Moreover, some fishing charters in Dubai do not allow for swimming during a fishing trip. Hence, it is important to ask your fishing boat captain before jumping into the water.

  • Ensure appropriate entry/exit points are available – Some boats may not be well-prepared or properly equipped for entry/exit into the water. Ask your fishing boat captain about the entry/exit procedures before swimming. Do not jump into the water if the entry/exit point is not appropriate.

  • STOP fishing! – If you decide to enjoy some refreshing swimming, no one else should be fishing on the fishing boat. Boat fishing, while someone is swimming near the boat, is extremely dangerous and may cause serious injuries to the swimmer.

  • Safety equipment – Ensure the availability of positively buoyant devices on-board for rescue purposes, such as floats and life buoys. If you are not very confident in your swimming skills, do not jump into the water without a life jacket. Legitimate fishing charters in Dubai are required to always have life jackets and a lifebuoy.

  • Empty your pockets – While this point seems logical, it is easy to miss out on this in the heat of the moment. In fact, due to the risk of falling and slipping, it is recommended that whenever you are fishing in Dubai on a boat, you keep your pockets empty in order to avoid damaging or losing your personal belongings. Most fishing boats in Dubai have ample space to keep your personal belongings safe and secure.
