Short-nosed Tripod Fish shape and color
The Short-nosed Tripod Fish has a flattened, compressed, and compact body, that is silvery in color with a grey/yellowish shine. It is unique in that it has three stiff spines, one on the dorsal fin and two on the pelvic fins (and that’s where the “tri” in “tripod” comes from). Those three stiff spines give it the look of a helicopter, hence the name “Helicopter Fish”.
