Headwear
As most of the days of the year in Dubai are sunny (unless you’re going for a night fishing trip), it is recommended to wear sun-protective headwear. While it is difficult to recommend one hat over another, it is safe to say that you should choose a hat with sufficient cover from sunlight (i.e., it can cover your whole head), with a neck string attached to secure it from flying off when the boat is moving.
Eyewear
Once again, unless you are going on a night fishing trip, you will need sun-protective eyewear for your eyes. We recommend getting a good pair of UV-protective sunglasses, whether or not you are wearing contact lenses. Not only do UV-protective sunglasses protect your eyes from direct sunlight while deep-sea fishing, but they also protect your eyes from splashing saltwater and potential accidents.
Tops and bottoms
When choosing tops and bottoms, it gets a little trickier. In general, you want to wear long sleeve shirts and long pants that are rated as UV-protective, to ensure optimal protection for the whole duration of the fishing tour. However, multiple factors may require slight variations.
The first factor to consider is the season of the year. If you are going on a fishing trip in Dubai during the winter months, especially from December – February, you will probably want to bring along a wind-proof, warm jacket, one which you can take off as the weather gets warmer (or put on as the weather gets cooler, depending on the time of the day).
The second factor to consider is the purpose of the trip. In other words, do you only wish to enjoy a deep sea fishing experience, or do you also want to take a refreshing dip in the blue waters offshore? Or perhaps you want to get yourself a good tan while you enjoy fishing! In such cases, it is recommended to avoid the general UV-protective clothing recommendation, and instead, swap those clothes for the most suitable set of clothing.
Footwear
During a fishing trip, it seems that many individuals enjoy walking around the fishing boat barefoot, enjoying a deeper connection with nature. However, our ultimate recommendation would be to wear some protective shoes, sandals, or slippers, all of which should be slippery-proof. The reason behind such a recommendation is that during a fishing trip, you may accidentally step on a sharp fishing hook, or a wet spot where you could slip and suffer a serious injury. In all cases, you can change your mind at any time and take them off, especially if you are going for a quick refreshing dip!
