To preserve the health of Dubai’s marine ecosystem, the Emirate of Dubai requires that citizens / residents obtain a license for recreational fishing as a prerequisite to fishing in the waters of the Emirate. However, if you are boarding a deep sea fishing charter in Dubai such as with Ocealics, you would not be required to obtain a recreational fishing license, as the fishing tour operator would itself be licensed to conduct the activity.
The recreational fishing license allows individuals to go fishing onshore (such as from a beach or a bridge) or offshore (such as kayak fishing). The only fishing equipment permitted to be used is a recreational fishing rod.
All individuals must strictly adhere to the Federal Law No. 23 of on Protection and Development of Bio-Aquatic Resources in the UAE, and its amendments.
You can apply for a recreational fishing in Dubai on Dubai Municipality’s website by clicking here. The license is free of charge and is valid for a renewable duration of one year, however, the service is not available during June to October as part of Dubai’s efforts to sustain local fish species. Applications are processed by Dubai Municipality within 3 business days.
Children below 18 years of age are allowed to fish in Dubai without a recreational fishing license.
According to Dubai Municipality, the recreational fishing license allows you to fish in Al Mamzar creek, Al Maktoum (Bur Dubai side only), Creek Park & Al Garhoud Bridges (Deira side only) of Dubai Creek; Jumeirah; and Umm Suqeim and Al Sufouh beaches.
