Shape and color
It has an elongated, compressed body that is blue-grey to tan in color with a shiny silver belly and a dark horizontal line running the length of the body, and often has distinguishable circles on the top half of its body. The pectoral fin is dark, and the other fins are yellowish, with sharp venomous spikes on its back.
Habitat
It is a top-water fish that lives and hunts close to the surface of the water in coastal areas and moves to deeper water at night. It is commonly found swimming in schools.
Feeding
The juveniles are known for feeding on planktonic crustaceans, while adults feed mainly on marine invertebrates, anchovies, and other small bait fish.
Fishing season
It is a common fish in the waters of the UAE, and is more common during summertime, when the water is warm.
Fishing method
It can be caught using various fishing techniques including fishing nets, fishing rods, and fish traps (locally known as Gargoor).

- Queenfish are strong fighters that give anglers a hard and fun time while reeling them out of the water.
- They are not known as a delicacy and are often released back into the water.
- If they are to be cooked, they must be cooked fresh and must not be frozen.
- When cooking, the preferred method of cooking is grilling or barbecuing.
