Foods and Drinks to Avoid Before a Fishing Trip

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”.

Less than 4 hours are left before the start of your long-awaited Dubai fishing trip, and you decide to grab something to eat or drink. If it was not for the fishing trip, we would have recommended basically any kind of food or drink you like! However, if you are going fishing within a few hours, you may wish to think twice.

The main risk that links deep sea fishing trips on a fishing boat to the meals eaten before the trip is sea sickness. Sea sickness (also known as motion sickness) can turn what would have otherwise been a fun fishing trip into a disastrous and sickening experience.

Fortunately, it is easy and absolutely worth it to avoid certain edibles a few hours before a fishing trip, hence, significantly decreasing any chances of sea sickness.

Before your fishing trip, be sure to avoid the following foods and drinks:

  • Alcoholic drinks – Not only does alcohol increase the risk of sea sickness, but it may also affect your judgment when you need it the most (offshore).
  • Heavy Meals – Like that Big McChicken meal!
  • Greasy (oily) foods – Like chips snacks, fried chicken bites, etc.
  • Spicy food
  • Foods and drinks high in acidity (low pH)
  • Coffee (Yikes! Not sure we can take that advice ourselves…)
