Best Time for Fishing in Dubai

13th Dec 2022

“Don’t wait. The time will never be just right”.

- Napoleon Hill

Typically, when you plan to book a deep-sea fishing tour in Dubai, you’d wonder if you are going fishing at the right time with the highest probability of catching fish. In this regard, perhaps no one could have said it better than Napoleon Hill, “Don’t wait. The time will never be just right”. Even with all the scientific and forecast advancements, it remains quite challenging to determine for certain whether a specific time on a specific day will be suitable for fishing.

On our fishing trips, we had days where the factors pointed towards excellent fishing conditions, yet barely caught any fish, and vice versa.

While this blog will address multiple factors likely leading to the best fishing times in Dubai, our advice is that you do not wait for “perfect” conditions, and hit the waters, even with the odds against your favor!

1. Season

It is undebatable that the best times for fishing in Dubai are winter times! During winter, seawater temperatures drop, and fish escape depth back into the shallow waters of Dubai. The best months for fishing in Dubai are September to April.

2. Wind and waves

In Dubai, strong winds and big waves are uncommon. In other words, the normal sea conditions in Dubai are relatively calm seas, which fish are used to. During times of strong winds or waves, it is not recommended to hit the waters and go fishing in Dubai on a fishing charter. While you may be lucky enough to get a few bites, you may also come back without any catch. On top of that, strong winds and big waves are hazardous weather conditions for boat fishing, and the relevant authorities may even prevent boats from sailing.

You can easily check weather conditions for fishing in Dubai through the Dubai Maritime City Authority’s website.

In general, waves that are higher than 0.5m and/or winds stronger than 13 knots will almost always result in a bad fishing day in Dubai.

3. Morning, afternoon, and night

Deep sea fishing trips in Dubai are more commonly advertised as morning or afternoon trips. However, some fishing charters (including Ocealics) offer night fishing trips in Dubai where requested. Fish tend to be more active in the waters of Dubai during three periods in particular:

  • Early morning (around sunrise)
  • End of morning and beginning of the afternoon
  • The period right before and after sunset

4. Tides

When it comes to tides, as is the case all around the world, times of high tide are the best fishing times in Dubai. High tide brings water that is rich in Oxygen and nutrients, and encourages higher fish activity, and hence, more bites!
